Fidjeri is particular repertoire of vocal music which is performed by Bahraini male pearl divers. “A chorus of accompanying singers and clapping” backs up a lead singer (“Traditional”). Also, Fidjeri includes the accompaniment of “small double-sided hand-drums, known as the mirwas and the jahlah,” and dances with clay water jars (“Traditional”). There are eight different genres of fidjeri, among which the two main ones are Bahri and Adsani.

“Tamkeen pact seeks equality for women”

The memorandum of co-operation was signed yesterday “between the Supreme Council for Women (SCW) and Tamkeen (formerly Labor Fund)” giving Bahraini women more opportunities for equality (“Tamkeen"). The document was signed by the secretary-general of SCW Lulwa Al Awadi and chairman of Tamkeen Dr. Nazar Al Baharna at the SCW’s Riffa headquarters.

The main goals of this memorandum are to reinforce the role of women at work, to improve their working conditions, and to support in introducing women into labor market by offering them more appealing jobs than foreigners.

Also, Tamkeen are to provide women with development programs, internal and external workshops, educational and training courses, and nomination of women for international organizations and forums dealing with women affairs.
